What makes a specialist?

Superior expertise & experience

An optometrist is a primary eye care doctor who is trained to fit regular contact lenses. However, many do not have the desire or comfort level to fit specialty lenses or provide myopia control. Dr. Chung is among a select group of optometrists in the country with advanced post-graduate training in corneal disease and specialty contact lenses. Her Medical Contact Lens Fellowship training at Casey Eye Institute, the #1 eye hospital in Oregon, was dedicated to the diagnosis and rehabilitation of over 1000 cases of complex eye conditions using custom contact lenses. Dr. Chung has helped patients of all ages and worked alongside ophthalmology subspecialists in cornea, neurology and pediatrics to achieve the best outcome possible.

Proven dedication to excellence & learning

Dr. Chung earned her status as Fellow of both the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) and Scleral Lens Education Society (FSLS) in 2019. FAAO signifies an optometrist has met the highest standards of professional competence as demonstrated by meeting rigorous qualifications (pictured). FSLS recognizes practitioners who have proven they are proficient in the fitting of scleral lenses by expert peer review. Dr. Chung is one of only a handful of optometrists in Oregon with this level of subspecialized training and experience in specialty lenses and myopia control. She is a regular presenter at national optometry meetings and prioritizes high quality professional education to continually elevate the standard of care she provides her patients.

Dr. Chung hails from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada where she started her career in biotech before discovering her interest in optometry after developing severe dry eyes (and yes, she was a long time soft contact lens wearer!). Having experienced the life-changing difference of scleral lenses herself, she approaches every patient in her care with compassion and evidence-driven knowledge informed both by her clinical training and personal eye journey. She enjoys working with hard-to-fit patients of all ages to find individualized contact lens solutions that can enhance their visual comfort, function and eye health beyond what is achievable with conventional glasses or contacts.
